‘ab Encoder MS’ is the simplest and most accurate way to bring your MS and Double MS recordings into the Ambisonics world.
We designed this plugin so you can take any Mid-Side (MS), or Double Mid-Side (DMS) recording and encode it directly to First-Order Ambisonics (1OA) — instantly, and without losing spatial detail. From there, you can transform or treat your signal using any of our Ambisonics tools, everything in three dimensions!.
Most engineers still decode MS or DMS to stereo before converting to Ambisonics, but doing so flattens the image: all the subtle front (and rear, in DMS) spatial cues are baked into a two-channel format and lost forever. ‘ab Encoder MS’ skips that compromise.
By working natively in MS and encoding the signal straight to 1OA, it preserves the natural width, directionality, and depth captured by your microphones.
No need to worry about matrixing, polarity, or complex routing — the plugin can easily adapt to your input configuration and encode it with perfect phase coherence.
In seconds, your field recordings, film ambiences, and immersive mic setups are transformed into true three-dimensional soundfields, ready for VR, Dolby Atmos, or any spatial workflow.

4Ch Signals: Mid/Side/Mid(rear)/Side(redundant).

With ‘ab Encoder MS’, you can:
Encode any Mid Side (MS) signal to 1OA, B-Format.
Encode any 3-Channel Double Mid Side (DMS) signal to 1OA, B-Format. The 3-Channel signal is composed of a Front Mid (1), Side (2), and Rear Mid (3) channel.
Encode any 4-Channel Double Mid Side (DMS) signal to 1OA, B-Format. The 4-Channel signal is composed of a Front Mid (1), Side (2), Rear Mid (3), and a redundant Side (4).
Ambisonics encoded audio is compatible only with DAWs that support 4-channel (or wider) tracks. If the DAW you use supports tracks of up to Stereo width, this plugin is not for you :)
