From pioneering 7th-Order Ambisonics in AAX plugins to introducing the first Eclipsa Audio-certified encoder app for iOS, Audio Brewers continues to expand the possibilities of immersive audio.
On June 22, 2023, Audio Brewers reached an important milestone by becoming the first company to introduce 7th-Order Ambisonics (7OA) support for AAX plugins, bringing advanced Higher-Order Ambisonics capabilities to professional Pro Tools workflows.
Three years later, we're proud to announce another industry first: ‘ab Spatial Ambisonics Recorder’ is the world's first Eclipsa Audio-certified encoder application for iOS.
And with our latest update, we're making it easier than ever to create and publish immersive videos directly from an iPhone.
From Ambisonics Recording to Eclipsa Audio
Designed for iPhone 16 Pro and newer compatible models equipped with built-in Ambisonics microphone arrays, ab Spatial Ambisonics Recorder captures three-dimensional audio alongside video, preserving the spatial characteristics of the recorded soundfield.
Until now, publishing immersive audio content could require additional software, external encoding tools, and multiple processing steps.
With our latest update, users who own the Immersive Audio Export add-on can now export their immersive videos directly into Eclipsa Audio, without leaving the application.
Even better, the resulting videos can be shared directly to YouTube, which recognizes Eclipsa Audio and enables immersive playback on supported devices.
No external encoders. No complicated workflows. Just record, export, and share.
Creating Eclipsa Audio Videos Is Simple
We've integrated Eclipsa Audio encoding directly into the recording and export workflow, making the entire process accessible in just a few steps.
1. Select Eclipsa Audio as Your Immersive Format
Open the application's settings and select Video with Eclipsa Audio under Immersive Format.
You can also enable Auto Generate After Recording, allowing the application to automatically prepare your immersive video after recording.
2. Export with Eclipsa Audio
Simply select your video and choose Export with Eclipsa Audio from the recording's menu.
The application handles the immersive audio encoding internally, without requiring any external software.
3. Let the Application Handle the Encoding
The Eclipsa Audio encoding process is performed directly on your iPhone.
A progress indicator displays the export status while the application generates your immersive video.
Once completed, the exported video's information screen identifies Eclipsa Audio as its audio format.
5. Share Directly to YouTube
Your immersive video is now ready to share!
Simply tap Share, select YouTube, and upload your video.
YouTube recognises the Eclipsa Audio format, allowing viewers with compatible playback devices to experience your content with immersive, three-dimensional sound.
From capturing the soundfield to publishing immersive video on YouTube, everything happens directly on your iPhone.
What Is Eclipsa Audio?
Eclipsa Audio is an immersive audio format based on the open IAMF (Immersive Audio Model and Formats) standard.
Designed to enable three-dimensional audio experiences across compatible devices and platforms, Eclipsa Audio offers a new way for creators to distribute immersive content.
For Ambisonics creators, this represents an important opportunity: recordings that preserve spatial information can now reach audiences through a widely accessible video platform such as YouTube, without requiring viewers to use specialized production software.
By integrating certified Eclipsa Audio encoding into ab Spatial Ambisonics Recorder, we're helping bridge the gap between immersive audio capture and distribution.
Continuing Our Commitment to Immersive Audio
At Audio Brewers, we've always believed that immersive audio should be both powerful and accessible.
Our introduction of 7th-Order Ambisonics support for AAX plugins in 2023 helped expand the possibilities of professional immersive audio production.
Today, bringing certified Eclipsa Audio encoding to iOS represents another step in that direction, making it easier for creators to capture, encode, and distribute immersive content using a device they already carry in their pockets.
Whether you're a filmmaker, sound designer, field recordist, or immersive audio enthusiast, we're continuing to develop tools that make working with three-dimensional sound more practical and intuitive.
